Operational Risk Analyst Investment Banking

My client, the investment banking business of a major banking group, is looking for an operational risk manager to conduct business risk assessments on a contract basis.

Key Responsibilities:

To provide a proactive operational risk management proposition to the business by:

Identify, mitigate and report on current and future risks locally and feed into global reporting and operational risk management frameworks accurately and on a timely basis

Support the business to allow them to identify, remediate and manage their risks and base their risk related decisions on timely and accurate substantive information

Follow up on actual operational risk events, minimise loss and mitigate against future losses

Support the embedding of the Operational Risk Framework and associated Operational Risk policies in the business and functions

Execution of the risk assessments to a high standard

Provide support to facilitate compliance with significant regulatory and risk initiatives for the business lines and functions assigned

Detailed understanding of products, processes, systems, data flows and controls

The above objectives are achieved chiefly by ensuring that are executed effectively, are in-depth, are multi-disciplinary and consider all relevant risks, assess the existing controls and recommend the introduction of additional controls/ control enhancements to ensure adequate risk mitigation.

Key result areas:

Execute operational risk assessments to a high standard and on a timely basis ensuring they are in-depth, comprehensive and consider all relevant risk types and controls

Support loss event processing, identification of root causes, remediation, tracking, etc

Proactively identify business and functions operational risks through the risk assessment process and proactive contact with the business

Develop strong product, business and front to back process knowledge to allow risk identification ahead of time

Develop real time knowledge of activities and risk issues in the business lines and functions assigned

Support embedding of Operational Risk policies and Risk management framework in the business lines and functions assigned

Review and analyse risk data and determine adverse trends for escalation and understand emerging themes and factor into the operational risk reviews accordingly

Keep Operational Risk management abreast of issues and activities

Ensure cross pollination of risk issues and learnings across the regions and globally

Providing input into the reporting teams activities for the local and global levels

Ensure SOX documentation requirements and standards are met and that design effectiveness walkthroughs are performed (as part of the risk assessments)

Provide support to other Operational Risk teams as required to ensure completeness of risk assessment and assist with developing consistency of OR approaches across divisions, where applicable

Develop and maintain a network of effective contacts in the business and functions and leverage these relationships in the performance of Operational Risks processes, embedding of policies, etc

Ideal candidate:

Experience of executing Operational Risks propositions and frameworks
Business relationship management experience from an operational risk perspective
Operational risk and capital markets (business and products) experience
Previous Front Office, Sanctions and/or Audit or Risk Management experience
Leadership potential and strong sense of motivation and initiative is required
Ability to work independently without immediate supervision and in rapidly changing field
Project management experience is a plus
